The mechanics of Star Wars: The Old Republic‘s recently announced space combat component have been explained.
According to the October issue of PC Gamer which holds a seven-page spread on the MMO, the space flight portions will be a cinematic experience. There won’t be any free-form flight however; the developers have instead opted for a “tunnel shooter.”
Players will be able to move up, down, left and right while dodging various objects and making use of their cosmetically customizable craft’s weaponry. As community man Sean Dahlberg revealed last month, “asteroid fields, enemy fighters, frigates, destroyers, and a variety of other obstacles” will be thrown in the player’s path.
Only solo play is planned for launch, but BioWare is hopeful that future updates will add PvP and team combat as well.
