UK charts: Kane & Lynch 2 bite deep, Modern Warfare 2 becomes biggest seller ever

IO Interactive’s Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days has debuted big on the UK’s all-formats sales charts following its release last Friday. Managing a big jump over its predecessor — which peaked at number 14 in late 2007 — the criminal duo’s latest has become publisher Square Enix’s third number one game of the year. It joins Final Fantasy XIII and Just Cause 2.

Other notable shakers and movers include the latest Prince of Persia which is back in the top ten, Mass Effect 2 (up from 25 to 12), and Need for Speed: Shift (up from 32 to 15).

The PC/Mac-only StarCraft II has dropped to 22, down from 12 in the week prior.

Perhaps the biggest news of the week however is Modern Warfare 2 which, having left behind the DS’ Dr Kawashima — a feat accomplished in 41 weeks — is now officially the UK’s biggest-selling videogame of all time.
