Atari’s greatest hits go mobile

Geriatric gamers, like myself, rejoice! It seems as if rumors of a Centipede and Star Raider resurrection were only part of a larger, grander old-school revival from Atari. The publisher today announced that it will be re-releasing 50 arcade and Atari 2600 titles from the 70’s and 80’s this holiday onto the Nintendo DS for $29.99.

Atari’s Greatest Hits: Volume 1 will present each game with the same control scheme as the original, yet will be updated to take full advantage of the DS platform. No need to stack quarters to call next though, 20 of the games will feature single card multiplayer, and multi-card play for head-to-head games. As if the games themselves weren’t enough, Atari is throwing in some added bonuses by including digital versions of the original game manuals, an Atari memorabilia showcase, and an online leaderboard enabled Atari trivia game.
