Since we’re all familiar with the wise tale of the boy who cried wolf, we’re starting to become skeptical whenever the words “Valve” and “surprise” find themselves married in the same sentences. When little of the rumored surprises came to fruition during E3 this year and when the press conference that promised us many a surprise got cancelled, our doubts on Valve’s word — at least when it comes to surprises — started to wain.
However, Valve head honcho Gabe Newell assures that surprises are in order as he explained to PC Gamer recently: “I can guarantee you people are going to be surprised at stuff we do. That isn’t going to stop any time soon. I’m just laughing because… people will be shocked again.” We’re not sure what he means by “you people” but we’re going to let that one slide, this time.
Newell goes on to reveal that we should expect not one, not two but three surprises coming in the next year: “We have three pretty big surprises in the next 12 months at least.”
There we have it, as plain as plain could be. And our interest meter has just ticked up a few notches.
