Take-Two have responded to suggestions that Mafia II will be unprofitable by hitting back at Michael Pachter’s claims.
The Wedbush analyst came out to theorise that Mafia II‘s six year development cycle would ensure the game would not break even.
However, talking to investors Take-Two CEO Ben Feder disagreed, saying, “Based upon the initial launch, we expect this to be another profitable title for Take-Two.” He also said the publisher was very proud of the game and its creators, according to a report over at develop.
Feder didn’t reveal sales numbers or the development costs of the game, but that isn’t standard practice at quarterly investors meetings. Similarly, no mention was made of the projected profits of the title.
Mafia II hit the number one spot on its first week in the UK charts. Take-Two CFO Lainie Goldstein said the game was “off to a great start”.
