A lot of gamers are enticed by the idea of an MMO, but held back by the monthly fees. It’s the one barrier that has stopped a lot of people buying games in the genre and yet hasn’t stopped making Bilzzard millions and billions of dollars.
Obviously it wasn’t having quite the same effect for The Lord of the Rings Online however, which as of today is free-to-play in North America. You can now head to the official site, download the title and roam around Middle Earth without dropping a penny.
There’s also some new content that expands the single-player story and opens up a shop for premium content etc.
I’ve looked and you can’t buy the ring, guess that’d make it a little unfair.
