Open-world Tomb Raider rumors return

More rumors on the next Tomb Raider‘s settings today; the spy section of PC Gamer’s latest issue reports that the unannounced adventurer will take place on an open-world Japanese island. “The idea is to have one, cohesive level with multiple ways around the puzzles,” the magazine writes.

“We’ll also be exploring Lara’s origins, so she’ll be younger and inexperienced in the ways of raiding tombs.”

This is identical to the chatter reported this summer, then.

While PCG makes no mention of it, the earlier rumors attached a release window on the adventurer s well: ‘holiday 2011’. The entire Crystal Dynamics studio is thought to have shifted focus to its development now that the download-only Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light is out and about.

The next game is also believed to ship with a multiplayer component, as well as an M rating.
