If you’ve bought a PlayStation Move controller already there’s no doubt that at some point in between all that archery and kung-fu riding you’ve thought to yourself, “I wonder if Naughty Dog will use Move in Uncharted 3?” Not that Uncharted 3 has been announced of course, but the developer have confirmed that they will not be using the device for their next project.
“I think if we were going to tackle a game that supported Move, we would want to do it from the ground up,” co-president Evan Wells revealed in a recent interview. “We’re too far along into what we’re working on next to really do it justice.”
That’s not to say him and the team are anti-Move, not at all: “I was probably the biggest naysayer when I heard about the Wii, this is just going to be flash in the pan. What is Nintendo thinking? But I’ve eaten my hat. And I think that there are some really great and exciting experiences that you can create. So, I definitely think the Move has a lot of potential.”
Co-president Christophe Balestra offered something similar: “Maybe in the future. Right now, it’s kind of difficult because we’re so focused on the next thing. It would be too late for us to start thinking about that. Move certainly has potential”.
Wells has crushed hopes of a motion-controlled Uncharted 3 in the past as well. “We really don’t have any interest in using the motion control to do a third-person action game,” he said late last year.
