Halo: Reach release doubles UK console sales

Next to debuting at the top of the UK’s all-formats chart, Bungie shooter Halo: Reach has managed another feat in the country. Namely, it’s the culprit behind the near-doubling of Xbox 360 console sales.

According to data cruncher GFK Chart-Track’s director Dorian Bloch, the game — released last Tuesday — had a “marked effect on hardware sales” and gave Microsoft’s system a 99% boost in sales, with retailer GAME’s limited edition Halo console bundle thought to have been the main driving force.

Reach sold an estimated 300,000 copies in the UK on day one — and $200,000 million’s worth worldwide — where it’s now the fifth biggest game launch of all time.
