Gears of War 3 slips due to “business decision”

Epic has delayed Gears of War 3; chalking it up to a “business decision” — and “absolutely not a development slip” — the third game in the Locust-splitting trilogy will now be bolstering Microsoft’s “fall 2011” lineup. It was previously announced for an April release.

“I know fans are going to be disappointed with the new release date, but rest assured that this is a business decision between partners, and not a quality issue,” executive producer Rod Fergusson said in a statement. Still a bummer though, innit?

Gears 3 was on track to be the most polished Gears of War game ever when it released in April, and this additional time allows us to polish it that much more before it hits shelves next fall.”

Those hungry for more information on the title won’t have to wait for long though. The studio will be revealing details on the game’s Versus competitive play via a press-only event next week; “Lots more exciting news to come,” Fergusson promises.
