Guillermo del Toro confirms game deal with THQ

Hellboy’s Guillermo del Toro has confirmed that THQ is the long-rumored game studio he’s working with to develop “huge games, huge world creation [with] long deadlines.” THQ has yet to make an official announcement, but the acclaimed director has revealed that they’re looking at a three year development deadline for each game with the first optimistically releasing around 2013. As for the subject matter, he’s a little more vague.

“It’s horror…but it’s a very different type of horror game,” he told MTV Multiplayer. “It’s not survival horror. It’s truly a strange, geeky mix. It’s a Lovecraftian thing. Let’s leave it at that.”

Whatever it is, apparently THQ “took to it immediately,” according to del Toro. We’ll have to wait for the official announcement to see what got the game company so excited they’d be willing to give the untried and untested game maker his first break, though the director’s filmography means he can pretty much write his own ticket in any medium.
