Originally slated for an early November release this year, DC Universe Online has now been pushed back by Sony to “early 2011.” You’d expect to be given an in-detail reasoning behind the delay, but there’s no such thing. Instead, we’re given the standard “committed to making the best game possible.”
Here are the facts, as told by John Smedley, President of Sony Online Entertainment; “DC Universe Online is the first game of its kind, and a truly massive undertaking — the first action MMO set in the DC Universe, the first MMO on the PlayStation 3, and the first time the entire DC Universe will be accessible to the millions of fans who are eagerly anticipating its release. As the game heads into external beta testing, this extra time will allow us to address community feedback in a meaningful way. When we get deeper into external beta, we’ll be able to share more information regarding the new launch date.”
“SOE is dedicated to delivering the highest quality game experiences possible,” added Smedley. But there are good news too…Players in possession of VIP key cards and those who registered via the DCUO website will be gaining access to the beta as early as next week. Sony also added that, as a thank you, all those who have pre-ordered the game – and do so by November 15th – will gain access to the beta as well, and this by November 30th. Should you pre-order the game after the 15th, you’ll still have a shot at the beta but only a week before the game’s release next year.
As if that wasn’t enough, here’s the last piece of info regarding the MMO; there will be a Collector’s Edition, which includes the following: the DCUO Batman statue, the limited edition Art of DC Universe Online art book, the DCUO Legends Issue #0 comic book with a Jim Lee variant cover, the DCUO Prestige comic presentation of the DCUO back-story and the limited edition Jim Lee-drawn poster Version of the Issue #0 comic book variant cover.
So there you have it, bad news countered with good news means we’re all happy and not too bothered by yet another game being delayed… right?
