Best savor this summer’s Wings of Liberty; the middle child in the StarCraft II trilogy, Heart of the Swarm, is quite out of reach.
Backing up Blizzard’s executive vice president of game design Rob Pardo’s words from August, Battle.net project director Greg Canessa has implied that the Zerg-focused release wouldn’t in fact arrive until the very distant Q1-Q2 2012.
While answering a fan question at GDC Online, Canessa said future Battle.net features such as trading/broadcasting replays and upgrading profiles would be worked on “over the next 18 months between now and Heart of the Swarm,” suggesting the studio’s targeting 2012’s March or April at the earliest.
Pardo previously said the developer is “just now getting serious” about the second chapter.
Those attending BlizzCon later in the month shouldn’t hold their breath, either. Blizzard’s confirmed to GameSpot that the game will not have a presence at the event. There will be some substantial Diablo news, however, as previously teased.
