Doom, Quake MMOs “very unlikely”

Ever dream of running around in a persistent Doom, Quake, or other world based on id Software’s intellectual property line-up? Best you stop that; the developer’s creative man Tim Willits reckons id trying their hand at an MMO is a most unlikely prospect.

“That’s a whole different mindset, different developer skills,” he said in a recent chat. “Even getting the vehicles working [in Rage] was hard enough. [laughs] I have way more respect for those MotorStorm guys let me tell you.”

Creating an MMO simply doesn’t look to be in the FPS studio’s DNA: “We would really have to have a paradigm shift – it’s a whole different way of thinking about things. That’s a service-based game. It would be very unlikely. For us, anyway.”
