Steam draws in 30 million accounts, on track for biggest year yet

It’s full steam ahead for Valve’s digital distribution platform.

The developer’s announced a series of stats for its ever-popular Steam service which is now home to more than 30 million registered accounts.

Year-over-year user growth for the past 12 months was no more or less than 178 percent with YOY sales up by more than a whopping 200 percent, allowing the company to boast with a 100+ percent YOY growth in unit sales for the sixth consecutive year.

The service now carries over 1,200 games and attracts over 6 million players daily. A new simultanous users record has also been set: 3+ million.

“Steam is on track to record the biggest year in its six year history,” boss man Gabe Newell says, contributing the growth to Mac support, Steam Wallet, in-game item buying support, etc. “We believe the growth in accounts, sales, and player numbers is completely tied to this work and we plan to continue to develop the platform to offer more marketing, sales, and design tools for developers and publishers of games and digital entertainment.”
