Namco Bandai of America is planning to lay off 90 employees soon, most likely due to the company’s recent reorganization where it combined their mobile and online game businesses into one division. Also influencing the decision is the move of many of the game’s development resources from their current office in San Jose, CA back to their home offices in Japan.
“We are partnering with external development studios out there because that is where the game business is going,” Carlson Choi, VP of Marketing, said of the decision. “Our goal is to move into digital games and broaden to different platforms. The details are being sorted out now.”
This moves follows suit with other companies who have recently focused on increasing their digital game presence, including Ubisoft and THQ.
