Nintendo is using the recent commercial and critical success of GoldenEye 007 as evidence that serious titles directed at traditional, hardcore gamers can find a home on the Wii. Viewed by many as a platform for casual games and shovelware, Nintendo head of communications Rob Saunders recently stated, “The idea that Wii owners are only after smaller mini-game compilations or first-party titles isn’t true.”
Saunders went on to say that, with solid publisher and retailer support, any great game can become a hit on the Wii.
Such claims will be put to the test in the coming month – a core title will be released in each of the coming weeks, with Call of Duty: Black Ops, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, Epic Mickey, and Donkey Kong Country Returns all seeing pre-Christmas release dates.
