Update: The number is ‘shipped to retailers’, Sony has clarified, not sold to consumers.
Original story: Sony has sold more than 4.1 million PlayStation Move controllers worldwide, it’s announced today; a goal reached in two months since its launch in Europe/North America in September, and Japan in October.
For a quick comparison: competitor Microsoft’s announced that its Kinect add-on for the Xbox 360 has sold 2.5 million units in less than a month.
“The number not only shows clear success of the launch of the new motion sensing controller,” Sony said today, “but also indicates positive momentum going in to the holiday season and to the year 2011.”
Sales for the Eye Camera or the sub-controller aren’t revealed.
