Yakuza creator Toshihiro Nagoshi’s next project’s been revealed: Binary Domain. A squad-based sci-fi shooter at heart, the game tackles the robots vs human theme and aims to please both western and Japanese audiences with its “deep human drama.”
“The keyword we have in mind for this project is ’Life’,” Nagoshi explains.”I wanted to make something that will be accepted by both the Japanese and Western markets, and this fundamental theme is something everyone knows but which the full extent of can be difficult to grasp.”
The game takes place in Tokyo in the year 2080 and sees players “fighting through the derelict lower levels of the city,” controlling “an international peace-keeping squad that soon starts to question their surroundings and the choices they are making.”
“Are the robots becoming more human, or are humans becoming more like machines?”
“Highly advanced AI” is promised, though you wouldn’t know it from the debut trailer above; it’s as Rambo as one can get.
Expect the game to arrive on both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
