Good news for Australian videogame fans who’ve been frustrated by the censoring or even banning of mature titles by their government. The federal cabinet has approved a new R18+ rating that would allow consumers 18 or older to purchase games containing even the most gruesome of content.
Previously, the most restrictive rating in Australia was MA15+, but that did not stop the government from censoring content that they did not see fit for 15-year-olds. However, according to the federal cabinet, the new R18+ rating is being created not to appease adult consumers, but rather to stop teenagers from enjoying inappropriate content that has apparently been slipping in under the MA15+ rating.
The federal cabinet is cool with the R18+ rating and it will become official if the attorney general approves later this week.
