Microsoft think Home is “a nice chat room, not an awful lot more”

PlayStation Home was originally touted as Sony’s answer to Xbox Live; a service where gamers could easily find each other and then launch into multiplayer games straight away. The dream wasn’t quite fully realised though and while Home has grown from what it originally started out as, it’s not central to the PlayStation experience.

Nice bait for Microsoft to take aim at, then, which is exactly what they’ve done. Xbox UK marketing manager Stephen McGill was asked if a similar service could come to XBL. He replied: “That’s not something that we’re looking at. I’m not sure what their learnings are from the Home experience, it’s a nice chat room I guess, not an awful lot more.”

Ouch. That’s not entirely fair, have they played bowling!?
