Sales the driving force behind Prototype sequel

Prototype 2 was “inevitable”. So says Ken Rosman, studio head at developer Radical Entertainment.

Quoted in the open-world sequel’s announcement press release, Rosman says it was the original’s sales that made the sequel a no-brainer.

“When Prototype surpassed 2MM units we knew gamers would want a sequel to find out what happens next with Alex Mercer,” Rosman said while forwarding the team’s thanks to the fans. “We are laser focused on delivering an even bigger and better experience with Prototype 2!”

The game was formalized this weekend with the above debut trailer which introduces James Heller, a sergeant seeking to destroy the first game’s anti-hero Alex Mercer. An in-depth first-look at the title will be included in EGM’s April issue.

In the meanwhile, publisher Activision is making the first Prototype available on both Xbox Live and PlayStation Network as a digital download. XBL has it now for $30; PSN is scheduled to get it today, for the same price.
