EA boss John Riccitiello has weighed in on the ongoing disc vs digital media debate with the opinion that discs are here to stay.
“Do I believe longer term that the disc will go away? Not any time soon,” he told Industry Gamers while speaking of his belief that people prefer discs over digital. “ “I think they want their games to work.”
He still believes digital is in for rapid growth, though.
Riccitiello also brought up the interesting point of using a disc as the foundation of a digital product: “The disc can actually be a great starting point for a digital business, like an MMO, World of Warcraft, for instance,” while also making the interesting comment that “We make services, we don’t make products.”
