Blacklight sequel goes free-to-play, reliant on microtransactions

The free-to-play plan is becoming increasingly popular in today’s market, with big franchises like the Battlfield series getting in on the action. Zombie Studios, the developers behind Blacklight: Tango Down, are set to use the model with their sequel, simply named Blacklight at the moment. Tango Down has seen reasonable success as a download-online online for for PC, PSN, and XBLA, but the team want to take it even further with the next game, introducing microtransactions.

CEO Mark Long revealed: “The free-to-play model is something we’ve been interested in since we first began working with Korean publishers four years ago. It’s exploding in China, growing fast in Europe and emerging here in Facebook and iOS games.”

Does this mean Blacklight will be one of the first games to introduce the free-to-play model onto consoles? Or will it simply fall back on being a PC exclusive?
