Among the biggest question marks regarding Sony’s freshly-revealed NGP are the device’s battery life and pricing. There are no clear answers on either, though Sony’s head of Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida has addressed them. In a way.
While taking questions from Twitter (via), the executive said the handheld to last “about the same as the original PSP.” Going by sources of EG, Sony was shooting for the 6-8 hour mark but had to settle for 4-5.
As for the pricing; it’s going to be “affordable,” Yoshida says, which, according to EEDAR’s Jesse Divnich’s prediction, means in the $299-$349 (£187-£219) range. That’s only analyst speculation though.
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe boss Andrew House has said he’d like to sell the NGP at a profit — “Ideally we would want to have our hardware be profitable, in addition to our software. We’ve experienced both sides and we know which one we like to be on!” — but, according to the EG source, the company is believed to “make a loss”.
NGP will be released in Holiday 2011. Catch more details and photos on the device here.
