Updated / Battlefield 3 official, first trailer

Update: More details emerge

Original story: The sad news brought by the people at DICE that Battlefield 1943 and Onslaught mode for PC weren’t happening at all was just so the company could shift focus onto the now officially unveiled true sequel to Battlefield 2, the title that changed the name of the game back in 2005: Battlefield 3.

With the new Frostbite 2 engine in place bringing plenty of new things to the table including real-time radiosity, deferred rendering (basically, in very few words, global illumination and shading techniques), a new animation system borrowed from the EA Sports label and with a vicious appetite for even more ground-razing destruction, Battlefield 3 is about to be equipped with “the best piece of technology on the market when it comes to building games,” according to executive producer Patrick Bach.

Battlefield 3 is expected to launch on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC this fall, with more info being revealed along the way. For now, see above for the first teaser.
