Not seven studios, but the development group 7 Studios, have been shut down, according to staff reports.
“Activision is shutting down the Guitar Hero business as of today. This includes my studio,” a 7 Studios staff member named Alex said last night on Twitter.
Activision acquired the California developer in 2009, and the team has been the DJ Hero B-team, lending their hand with development on the franchise. The studio was also responsible for the creation of the Guitar Hero VIP Pass downloadable content hub, as well as additional iOS products, and “Various Prototypes/Concepts” for a range of systems.
This is truly a bummer, and we wish the let go developers the best of luck in their future endeavors.
