In case you haven’t heard, Sony’s anticipated “PlayStation Phone” is now real and officially named Xperia Play. Despite being unveiled to the public just recently on Super Bowl Sunday, it’s been revealed today that the Android-powered device will be launching in the United States in March on the Verizon network.
As far as content is concerned, it was confirmed at a Sony Ericsson press event that Xperia Play will have around 50 titles at launch. Popular IPs Guitar Hero, Assassin’s Creed, Splinter Cell and Dead Space will all eventually have games on the phone.
Will Sony’s new device become the future of portable videogames or just blow over like a fad? We’ll have more for you as the spring launch approaches. For now, see below for more on what to expect.
