EA extends Madden exclusivity through 2013

According to reports, EA and NFL have come to the agreement of extending the publishing giant’s exclusivity to license league team names, uniforms and logos for use in the Madden NFL franchise for another year. The agreement which was due 2012 will now run for another year, until 2013.

Furthermore, the league reduced the royalties it charges EA for the license to use the aforementioned names, uniforms and logos due to a possible football strike which may cause next season to be cancelled altogether. This could make Madden NFL 12‘s release awkward and financially difficult since there wouldn’t be an active sport to support it. Ironic, given EA’s situation with NBA Elite 11, which pushed 2K Sports’ NBA 2K11 to profitable sales.
