Telltale Games is finding its niche in retro reboots. It’s injected new life into Back to the Future and Tales of Monkey Island and now has plans to resuscitate King’s Quest, the classic PC adventurer.
Game Informer reports that Telltale has acquired the rights to King’s Quest, opening the door for “multiple games over several years.” Previous unofficial attempts at reviving King’s Quest had its fits and starts, but this version looks to be a pure reboot.
“I would say our approach is going to be similar to Tales of Monkey Island,” explains Telltale co-founder Dan Connors. “Let’s look at the whole thing, let’s figure out where they left the story, let’s find the most interesting places to go to and embellish upon, and let’s go there. With Tales, it was a wonderful thing to pick up Elaine and Guybrush’s relationship and LeChuck. I think we’ll do the same thing and see where all the players fit in and find a time and a place for them to do something new.”
Not much more is known, but Telltale hints that more will be revealed at E3 this year.
