Halo Wars did better than Microsoft expected

It may have been part of one of gaming’s biggest brands, but you kind of got the feeling Halo Wars was being sent out to die back in 2009. The reputation of the RTS genre on consoles and the closure of developer Ensemble Studios didn’t exactly bode well for the title.

Despite this, it seems that the game has done quite well. Frank O’Connor, creative director at the Halo-focused 343 studios recently told CVG that the game “was a big critical success. It’s still the number one selling RTS on consoles this generation.”

To memory, that means it’s beat our EndWar, C&C Red Alert 3, R.U.S.E., and Stormrise among other console RTS’. Could that mean we’ll see a sequel? “We could do something that works on Kinect, for example. There’s no will against it but we’re not working on it right now.”

Kinect and RTS could very well go hand-in-hand. Perhaps Halo Wars has a future yet.
