The Tomb Raider franchise is getting a double helping of reboots. First up is the new Crystal Dynamics-developed game that takes Miss Croft back to her roots. On top of that the film franchise will also be getting a new direction in 2013, it was announced today.
GK Films has acquired the movie rights to the franchise with Graham King and Tom Headington set to produce. “We are very excited to be rebooting what is already a hugely successful film franchise and continuing the Tomb Raider phenomenon,” King says.
The previous Tomb Raider films have grossed over $430 million at the global box office, despite being a bit so-so. We doubt that Angelina Jolie will return for the reboot, but the less like the old films this one is, the better.
