In an industry where we praise eye-gouging and neck-snapping, LittleBigPlanet has been a beacon of hope for hardcore gaming that isn’t just for adults. Developer Media Molecule and Sony aim to capitalize on that by bringing Sackboy into the classroom with educational DLC for LittleBigPlanet 2.
SCEE’s Senior VP Ray Maguire recently revealed the plan to MCV: “We are going to be creating teacher packs where class teachers with a specialist subject knowledge in science, technology, engineering and maths – the stem subjects – create ‘levels’ with content aligned to their specific age range.”
Given LBP2‘s incredible Create Mode, some amazingly inventive levels could be made here. The content would be handled entirely through LBP2 as if it were just another DLC pack. But the plan could go beyond LBP. “Games consoles don’t just play games, they are sophisticated media players,” Maguire added.
“There is no reason why you can’t play open standard educational content such as videos, audio and web-based lessons through a games console like the PlayStation.”
