The might of World of Warcraft will one day come to an end. While that is a statement most of us may have a hard time wrapping our heads around, Blizzard co-founder and VP of product development Frank Pearce believes that to be the case, and it just could happen sooner than we think, which would logically – arguably – be by the launch of the company’s upcoming Titan project.
“For us, I think it’s really important that we recognise that somewhere, sometime it’s likely that someone is going to cannibalise World of Warcraft players, so it’s better we cannibalise them ourselves than let someone else do that, because if we cannibalise them ourselves, they’re still a Blizzard customer,” said Pearce during an interview.
He added:”a shorter-term concern is whether or not we might see cannibalization of WoW players from Diablo III when we launch it, because it’s a similar type of experience. Not exactly similar, but it’s that RPG feel.”
While WoW runs the MMO world with an iron fist, Pearce claimed “there’s plenty of space in the market for great MMOs to share customers,” and for the “industry to grow.”
