Microsoft’s Kinect is selling fine and dandy, but critics will tell you that the tech behind the motion sensor could be improved. One issue is with the amount of lag between the player’s actions and those actions being picked up on screen. If a recently discovered research paper is to be believed though, MS could be looking to change that.
The paper summarises that introducing new AI learning routines could improve the device’s ability to discern and track body parts. Basically, using confusing science that only PC gamers would probably understand, researchers have collected specific data that makes the device’s recognise and estimate joint positions much faster. On top of this, the new tech could reduce those lag times.
No word on when or even if these developments will be implemented, but we’d definitely like to see Kinect improve in the near future.
