At Capcom’s own Captivate 2011 event, a giant slew of trailers hit the public, including a trailer and long-awaited footage of mash-up fighter Street Fighter X Tekken.
For those who remember the original Street Fighter IV trailer as an epic romp-around with enough ink to make Okami weak in the knees, the SFxT trailer is basically that exacerbated to the 5th degree. The trailer shows Ryu and Ken facing off against Kazuya and Nina with all four characters literally sweating ink to the point where a single hadouken causes everyone to explode in well-patterned ink waves. It’s all very ridiculous, but still a joy to watch.
Early gameplay footage also made its debut, with Street Fighter‘s Guile, Abel, Chun-Li and Tekken‘s Marduk, King, and Bob making an appearance as playable characters. While it all seems to fit in the same template as SFIV‘s gameplay, the action is noticeably faster, with combos easily reaching beyond the range of your average Street Fighter combo. The tag team action is also reminiscent of the glory days of Tekken Tag Tournament and Dead or Alive, with characters seamlessly popping in and out of combos to shove knees, fists, elbows, and feet into others in the name of good fun.
No release date has been given for the title just yet.
