PopCap has announced a small scale expansion of their social games empire by acquiring ZipZapPlay, a startup dev based in San Francisco.
The 17-man strong team are no strangers to social gaming themselves; they’re behind family-friendly titles like Baking Life (which sounds very exciting). Play’s CEO Curt Bereton and CCO Mathilde Pignol will continue to direct game and design development despite the change.
“We’re elated to join the leading casual games developer and help grow PopCap’s presence in the social arena,” Bererton said of the acquisition.
“PopCap’s focus on innovative gameplay and user experience meshes with our own design philosophy. We can’t wait to put our heads together with PopCap and start creating the next generation of games for Facebook and other social platforms.”
We’ll be seeing the fruits of this deal sooner rather than later; PopCap expect to have four or five social games out on Facebook before year’s end.
