L.A. Noire gets eight short stories

It’s rare to hear about merchandising from Rockstar, but the publisher is seemingly pulling out all the stops for this month’s release of L.A. Noire.

Thus, the company has announced that it’s teaming up with Mullholland Books to bring us a total of eight short stories in digi-book form. L.A. Noire: The Collected Stories brings eight crime authors on board to expand on the game’s fiction, looking at specific cases and characters from the game in some cases.

Writers include Megan Abbott, Lawrence Block, Joe Lansdale, Joyce Carol Oates, Francine Prose, Jonathan Santlofer, Duane Swierczynski and Andrew Vachss. Given the quality that Rockstar demands of any one of its franchises, and the rich world that L.A. Noire depicts, we’re betting these will be worth a read.

Selected stories will launch prior to the game’s release on May 17 in the US, 20 in the UK, while the whole collection goes on sale June 6 via all major eBook retailers. You can check out an excerpt from “The Girl” by Megan Abbott here (*.pdf link).
