Popular publisher Ubisoft made a pretty interesting move recently; the company has opened its very own studio dedicated to making movies and films, named Ubisoft Motion Pictures.
Former Europacorp CEO Jean-Julien Baronnet will be placed in charge of this Paris-based studio, while former Walt Disney Studios France executive Jean de Rivieres will head up marketing and promotion. Ubisoft has been talking up film production quite regularly over the past few years.
There are several key Ubisoft franchises that are ripe with film material *cough* Assassin’s Creed *cough*, and the publisher itself is no stranger to film adaptions as seen with 2010’s Prince of Persia movie. It would certainly be exciting to see what projects are on the table for the studio right now, and which other publishers might follow this plan should the undertaking prove successful.
Just please, don’t adapt Rayman.
