Here’s a big juicy hint about the next Half-Life game; Valve boss Gabe Newell has said the company has moved on from its episodic model; could they be ditching Half-Life 2: Episode 3 in favor of, well, Half-Life 3?
Newell told Develop: “We went through the episodes phase, and now we’re going towards shorter and even shorter cycles.”
But where will this shorter direction take them? “For me, ‘entertainment as a service’ is a clear distillation of the episodic content model,” Newell added.
It’s an idea that we’ve already seen put to use in Team Fortress 2, which has seen a staggering 200+ updates since its release in 2007. Pointing to TF2, Newell said: “that’s what we now think is the best model for what we’ve been doing.
“Our updates and release model on [TF2] keeps on getting shorter and shorter.”
Expect a similar approach for future Valve releases, then.
