The Australian R18+ rating that many had hoped would be enforced nation-wide has suffered a blow. Pro rating Attorney-General for Tasmania, David Bartlett, has stepped down from his position, meaning the rating has lost a key supporter. He said of his resignation: “For the past two to three weeks … I have had to question whether or not I still have the passion and commitment that is required.”
We guess this recent action serves as his answer.
Currently implemented in South Australia, Pro18+ aims to better advise parents on what games they should be buying for children. A SCAG meeting in July is to decide if the system should stay or go. Australian gamers are now hopeful that Bartlett’s replacement takes a similar stance.
