The US games market went through a very positive 20% year-over-year increase in April, data collector NPD Group’s figures for the month show.
Total software sales were up 24% YOY (to $533.6 million), and hardware 12% (to $279.9 million). Reaping most benefits were Mortal Kombat and Xbox 360, which landed at the top of the software and hardware sales charts, respectively.
April was the 11th consecutive #1 month for Xbox 360, with hardware sales up a mighty impressive 60% YOY. PlayStation 3’s sales were also up, but by a more conservative 13%.
Mortal Kombat sold 900,000 copies, with Portal 2 and LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars rounding out the top three. Finishing the top 10 were Call of Duty: Black Ops, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters, Crysis 2, Just Dance 2, Michael Jackson The Experience, Pokemon White, and NBA 2K11.
