Sony promises return of PlayStation Store on May 24

Set your giant countdown clocks for 5 days – according to a memo sent to developers and publishing partners, Tuesday, May 24 is when Sony has promised the return of the PlayStation Store.

The memo, obtained by Gamasutra, confirms Sony’s plans to update the store twice per week for the next two weeks. The first update will include content originally scheduled for April 26, followed by content originally scheduled for May 3.  The rest will be pushed on May 31 and June 1, at which point they’ll be done with the backlog and able to return to their weekly content push schedule. Sony promises to be flexible, moving some titles around depending on urgency.

As for us gamers, the return of the PlayStation Store means getting to claim Sony’s “Welcome Back” package, which allows existing account holders with a PlayStation 3 to download two free games from a list that includes Dead Nation, Infamous, LittleBigPlanet, Super Stardust HD and Wipeout HD and those with a PSP to download two free games from a list that includes LittleBigPlanet, ModNation Racers, Pursuit Force and Killzone Liberation.
