“A lot of cool stuff” added to COD engine — IW

The most noticeable differentiator in this fall’s battle of the first-person shooter giants, Battlefield 3 and Modern Warfare 3, is probably the technology powering each title. It appears unlikely that Activision’s years-old Call of Duty tech can stand up to DICE’s new Frostbite 2 game engine, but that doesn’t mean they can’t put up a fight.

“We’ve moved beyond the MW2 engine and added a lot of cool stuff for Modern Warfare 3,” tweets Infinity Ward’s community man Robert Bowling who, sadly, leaves said cool stuff extremely unspecified for now.

It will be a short wait though; today’s late night gameplay debut trailer on ESPN (and on the web shortly after) shouldn’t be shy about putting some of the visual improvements on display.
