While not itching to compare the title to the “extraordinary success” that was last year’s Red Dead Redemption — “Every title stands alone” — Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has high hopes for LA Noire as a franchise.
“We have every reason to believe L.A. Noire is another strong franchise for this company,” the exec said on the company’s FY 2011 earnings call. “No matter how you slice it, it’s a very successful release. To be able to say that again is extraordinary.”
After its release last week, the detective story became the fastest-selling new intellectual property ever in the UK.
Zelnick continued: “This management team is just immensely grateful to Rockstar for delivering another superb title and 2K [Games] for all the franchises they’ve been delivering as of late. One can never take that for granted. The hit ratio of this group is extraordinary.”
While in no way confirmed, there’s been talk of a possible follow-up already; just earlier this week developer Team Bondi chatted about shorter developent cycles and moving ahead with full body capture tech.
“We do see this as a powerful new franchise for our company,” Zelnick concluded.
