Battlefield 3’s Back to Karkand built separately from main game

Here’s an interesting snippet from Battlefield 3‘s development; the shooter’s Back to Karkand add-on is being created by a team entirely separate from the main development force.

The bit was revealed in the latest episode of EA Pwned, an in-house series the publisher uses to promote its games.

Back to KarkandĀ  is made up of four re-imagined Battlefield 2 fan favorite multiplayer maps, all re-built on DICE’s new Frostbite 2 game engine. Have a look at the first comparison shots in the gallery here.

Also revealed was the little welcome fact that game modes added to the series since Battlefield 2, like Rush for example, will also be available on the Karkand maps.

Battlefield 3 will release this fall.
