Having launched in late 2009, the free version of Epic’s Unreal Engine, the Unreal Development Kit, has been downloaded over 800,000 times, the publisher has revealed. Those are unique installations, boss Mark Rein told Gamasutra, meaning each has been downloaded on a different rig.
Owners of UDK can go on to pay a $99 registration in order to bring their products to market, though it’s unclear how many numbers of people have done this.
The system is available for PC and iOS, but the developer hopes to bring it to Android systems soon. Perhaps when they do they can celebrate the one millionth download.
