Rumors started brewing last month when a resume, listing “audio for the game demo of Rainbow Six (2011),” was found on a LinkedIn profile. Now, with Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3 set to battle it out this fall, growing talk of a revamped Rainbow Six franchise on the horizon is set to make things truly interesting for the FPS landscape.
The new installment is said to break away from the gameplay of the previous two releases – Rainbow Six: Vegas and Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 – and return to its original tactical-based roots. In the early iterations of the franchise, players didn’t simply drop in with weapons equipped and go wabbit hunting. Thorough planning had to be done – with team creation, weapon selection, and route mapping – in order to accomplish the mission’s objective(s).
What’s more, according to the source, the game will take players on a more in-depth story-based ride, with the enemy not a foreign entity, but a US-based terrorist group out to take down Wall Street.
Can. Not. Wait.
