Japanese publication Nikkei has confirmed some the details we had already heard leaked out about the Project Cafe controller. Of the most interesting feature on the controller — the touch screen — Nikkei reports that it will be a six-inch panel that will give players “tablet-like” control over games.
As we heard before, the screen will also be used to convert the controller into a portable gaming device. Just like Nintendo’s existing portable system, the controller is said to have a rechargeable battery and a camera that may be used to create a realistic player avatar.
Mid-2012 is what Nikkei is reporting to be the potential release date for the next Nintendo console, so while we can’t wait for a Project Cafe reveal at this year’s E3, we’ll probably have to wait until next year for the serious lowdown on some of the software launching with it.
