Cloud storage isn’t just for Mac users. Larry Hryb, Xbox Live’s director of programming, announced via Twitter that cloud storage services would be coming to the Xbox 360. The move will make 360 hard drives obsolete, as gamer profiles, achievements, and game save files would all be stored in the cloud and accessed from the Internet.
The move should also make gaming from anywhere much easier: previously, your gamer profile was stored on your 360’s hard drive and could only be quickly and easily accessed from that single device. Now, accessing a gamer profile will simply be a matter of logging in from any connected Xbox 360, anywhere.
Gryb also announced a new “beacon” functionality, which will allow 360 users to ping their friends on XBL and Facebook when they want to play a game.
